who we are
About Us
A proudly South African group of vibrant women who have been offering support to various groups of people in need over the years. A greater need for support was identified, from this need the idea of Friends of Hope Foundation was born.
We believe by formalizing the company Friends of Hope Foundation this would have far greater reach and access to “Friends” in various industries and sectors who would be able to assist us. We further registered Friends of Hope Foundation as a public benefit organization (PBO).
We are based in Gauteng with a footprint in KwaZulu Natal. Our project areas are rural, township and informal settlement locations in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal
The adage “it takes a village to raise a child” is absolutely still true.

our programs
Education
Throughout the year we participate in various educational endeavors.
We supply writing and reading material along with stationary for the children. We assist the school with furniture, painting of the schools and other related needs. With regards to sports education, we do exercise and sport education including assisting with sporting equipment for continuity. We also work with the educators, whereby we do personal development programs with them for their personal growth and development.
This we find enriches the lives of the educator and students in life changing ways. The youth receive various training initiatives which enables them to prepare and be ready themselves either for employment or to enter the world as an entrepreneur and to deal with life in general.
How we address bullying and gender-based violence by doing age-appropriate talks. Motivation and inspirational talks are also part of the program. We work with the school and understand the needs as they arise throughout the year. Sponsor a child program is a wonderful initiative that the school request assistance with. This provides children with uniforms, accessories for the uniform as well as school requirements. Have the basic educational needs do and will continue to give these children the opportunity to be educated and one day play a vital role in societal and economic development.
Food Nutrition
Many children go to school with empty stomachs. Many men and women go to work without having had a meal. We assist with this on a monthly basis by providing non-perishable and canned foods to schools and warm meals to the community members who need a meal.
We have special days where we do community food drives, this is where we go out into the community and give meals, to those who would like a meal and or food parcel.
Sports
We are blessed to work with wonderful coaches that give of their time to support the children at the schools. This lends to the benefit of making learning a wonderful experience and so much more valuable because combing physical education with mental education broadens and improves the outcome of learning. Throughout the year our qualified coaches and youth facilitators do exercises and sporting activities with the growing children all the while educating them through this process.
This program brings great joy to the learners. The sound of their laughter, their smiles and their screaming is evidence of the joy.
Women to women
We supply hygiene dignity packs which include, sanitary towels, roll on, facecloth, soap and sanitizer to the young ladies on a monthly basis. This program allows and affords the young ladies to attend school throughout the year ensuring a inclusive learning opportunity. This helps students and teachers achieve their learning outcomes because it reduces absenteeism. The young ladies gain valuable learning by staying in school.
The young ladies are very appreciative of receiving these packs. They are also very happy when we explain the how to of a menstrual cycle and hygiene aspects.
Boys also get roll-on, we will soon do add facecloths and soap to their packs.
Other
Throughout the year we supply clothing and toys depending on the initiative and availability.

Back to school
At the end of the year or the beginning of a new year we get requests from schools. These requests include stationary, uniforms, school shoes and other school requirements for the year. We assess the needs and assist with a Back to School initiative at the beginning of the year.
Where we supply the children and the school with various items:
- Books
- School shoes
- Stationary
Easter
Easter is just a wonderful fun filled initiative where we go to the school and treat the children with an easter celebration. This is just a wonderful memorable day for the children to be children and have fun without any worry.
The children do and receive;
- Lovely easter goodie packs
- A delicious meal
- Fun activities and prizes
Mandela Day
On this day we join our country and proudly celebrate. We go out to the schools and include the teachers by asking them to remind the children of the significance of the day. We then begin the 67minutes of sharing and caring, often its always more than 67minutes because why not.
Children do and receive:
- Exercise and sports activies
- Dancing competitions and prizes
- A delicious meal
- Party packs
- The school receives assistance with non-perishable
foods in bulk for the remainder of the year.
Christmas shoebox
At the end of a wonderful year, it is important to reward the children with special gifts.
We appreciate the special Santa shoebox project. This is where we provide the children with beautiful personalised gifts. What a beautiful experience for all who participate in the initiative. When the children receive a personal gift with their names and surnames on it, beautifully rapped or a lovely gift bag they feel so special.
